Last Evening in Jersey City

The images below of Frank Hague (the tall mean-looking guy standing next to FDR prior to a massive summer 1932 campaign rally down the Shore; Hague bused down nearly every man woman and child from Hudson County and provided lunch) and his one-time heir apparent turned conqueror John V. Kenny
are featured in …Irish Waterfront. I located these images in the New Jersey Room of the Jersey City Public Library, a resource so rich in Hudson County waterfront materials as to make my head swim. Cynthia Harris, director of the New Jersey Room collections and her associate John Beekman helped me locate, digitalized and made possible the use of these remarkable images, which also illustrated our presentation at Saint Peter’s College last evening. We’ll have more on that meaningful event before day is through, but this is to thank Cynthia (Saint Peter’s College alum) and John (Fordham; my current employer) for all they do for the likes of us historians, storytellers, and Jersey Citizens.
